BIO
Out of the Bluegrass State come three blue-collar young
men, desperate to get their message of hope out to the masses. Nearly five years
running, SK has toured the South, sharing the stage with such acts as Pedro
the Lion, Joy Electric, Calibretto, Disciple, and Side Walk Slam. After amassing
a rabid regional fanbase following the release of their "Save the Changes"
EP (Bad Apple Records), the Kin released their first full length, "We Need
to Know" in January '05 . Displaying tremendous musical growth, the album
features anthemic tracks like "All the Way", straight-ahead rock songs
such as "Nashvegas", and epics like "The Four-Color Process".
SK continues what they do best: tearing up stages all over the country, making
new friends, and having a blast doing it.
FAQ's
Where did the name Stellar Kin come from?
Derek was trying to think of a band name one evening
in the year 2000, and so he did what any redneck would do- go for a drive in
his dad's pickup truck (The Silver Streak - rest in peace). He pondered, and
thought of how God in his awesomeness created the stars, the planets, and this
whole breathtaking universe, yet through believing in His Son Jesus Christ,
we can be a part of God's family. Thus, Stellar Kin.
What's the deal with the girl with the knife? The girl is our amazing friend Holly Stewart. The knife thing is totally metaphorical, and it will make sense when the new album art is released. We don't advocate any sort of violence, whether or not it involves kitchen knives.
How many people have been in Stellar Kin, total? 12 dudes have been a part of Stellar Kin officially- 3 guitarists, 4 bassists, and 5 drummers. Whew. Name them all and you get a prize. The current (and final!) lineup, Derek, Josh, and Brandon, have been together since May 2002.
What labels has Stellar Kin been involved with, and what CD's have been released? SK initially had a deal with the now-defunct Libertate' Records out of Hartford, KY. Four songs were recorded for a split release with Anne Hutchinson, which hopefully you will never hear. In November 2002, Bad Apple Records out of Bowling Green, KY released our 5-song debut EP, Save the Changes, to much fanfare and success, and just recently released our first full-length, We Need to Know. There have been several one-offs, demos, and live recordings of various levels of embarrassment that will probably be released as a cash-in via the Stellar Kin Anthology series in 2030. Can't wait? Too bad.
What equipment do you use when you're kickin' out the jamz? Derek plays an '01 Paul Reed Smith McCarty solidbody with 10-Top and an '03 Gibson Explorer through a Peavey Triple XXX half stack. His rack has a Korg tuner, Boss GX-700 Multi-FX, DBX 31-band EQ, and Furman Power Conditioner. Brandon plays an Epiphone Viola through an Ampeg SVT Classic and an Ampeg Classic 8x10. Josh plays a Pearl Export Series with Zildjian cymbols and Vic Firth sticks.
You guys are just too hott for words. Are you single?? All taken! But we have friends...well, nevermind...
TMI? No? Email your questions to the band and we'll answer them. It's the least we could do.
